Rod Graham is a Melbourne veterinarian, author and law graduate whose working life has provided no shortage of stories. After graduating in veterinary science from the University of Melbourne in 1971, Rod began his career in mixed practice. He later established a horse practice in Melbourne’s Yarra Valley, where the work involved long nights, muddy paddocks, difficult horses and the occasional difficult owner. His career eventually took him from rural and equine practice into small-animal veterinary medicine in inner Melbourne. While continuing to work as a vet, Rod undertook a law degree at Monash University. Studying law at night while remaining on call as a veterinarian proved to be a lengthy undertaking, but after ten years he completed his LLB. The combination of veterinary medicine, business and law gave him an unusual view of the people and situations he encountered along the way. Rod’s five-book series, *Snippets of a Vet’s Life*, is inspired by more than five decades of veterinary practice and personal experience. The books follow the life of the fictional veterinarian Dr Rob McBride, whose story is shaped by many of Rod’s own experiences but is not intended as a literal autobiography. Written with honesty, warmth and understated Australian humour, the series is as much about the people surrounding a veterinary practice as it is about the animals. Rod lives and works in Melbourne.
